Durable, seamless epoxy coating systems for garages, basements, workshops, patios, and commercial spaces. Resistant to stains, chemicals, and daily wear. Proper prep, proper product, proper cure. Serving Durham Region, York, and the GTA from Ajax since 2018.
Concrete takes more abuse than almost any other surface in a home or business — hot tires, road salt, oil, dropped tools, moisture, foot traffic. A generic concrete paint or sealer chips and peels within a year or two. A properly installed epoxy system, applied over a correctly prepared floor, resists all of it and holds up for years — and it's not limited to garages.
The difference is almost entirely in the prep. Most epoxy failures aren't a product problem — they're a floor that wasn't diamond-ground, degreased, and moisture-tested before coating. We treat prep as the majority of the job, not a step to rush through to get to the fun part.
Altona Painting uses professional-grade epoxy and polyaspartic systems applied by experienced hands, on interior and exterior concrete alike. The prep work matters as much as the product, and we don't cut corners on either.
A great floor is only half the transformation. For custom storage and organization systems, we partner with Propel Garages, who specialize in premium garage transformations — from durable floor coating systems to custom storage and organization solutions. With a focus on quality craftsmanship, attention to detail, and long-lasting results, they help homeowners create beautiful, functional garages built to last.

Epoxy flooring is unforgiving of shortcuts — a floor that isn't properly ground, degreased, and moisture-tested will fail no matter how good the coating looks going down. Michael Cappa built Altona Painting's flooring process around getting the prep right every time, not just the finish.
When you book epoxy flooring with Altona, you're getting a crew trained in proper surface prep and coating application — whether it's a garage, a basement, a workshop, or a commercial space. The difference shows up years down the road, not just on day one.
Not at all — garages are the most common request, but the same coating systems work well in basements, workshops, laundry and utility rooms, and commercial or warehouse spaces. Exterior-rated polyaspartic systems can also be applied to patios, porches, and pool decks. We'll recommend the right product for the specific space and how it's used.
Most single-room projects — a garage, basement, or workshop — take 2-3 days from start to finish, including grinding, crack and joint repair, base coat, colour or flake broadcast, and top coat. Larger spaces or floors needing significant repair can take longer.
Light foot traffic is usually fine after 24 hours, but you should wait at least 3-5 days before driving on a garage floor or placing heavy furniture and equipment, and up to a full week for a complete cure, depending on the product and conditions.
A properly installed system — ground floor profile, correct mil thickness, and the right product for the space, whether heated or unheated, interior or exterior — holds up well to Ontario winters. Most flooring failures come from inadequate prep, not the product itself, which is why proper grinding and moisture testing matter more than which coating is used.
Epoxy offers excellent durability and adhesion at a lower cost, with a longer cure time — a good fit for interior spaces like garages and basements. Polyaspartic cures much faster and holds up better to UV exposure without yellowing, which makes it the better choice for patios and other exterior applications. We'll recommend the right system based on the space, use, budget, and timeline during your estimate.
Altona Painting focuses on the floor coating itself. For custom storage, cabinetry, and organization systems to complete a garage, we partner with Propel Garages, who specialize in that side of a full garage transformation.
Based in Ajax, Altona Painting provides professional epoxy flooring services — for garages, basements, workshops, and commercial spaces — across Durham Region, Northumberland County, Kawartha Lakes, York Region, and Central and Eastern Toronto.
